This year has been awesome!
There are so many opportunities to be thankful for this year that I will probably forget while trying to list them, but here goes nothing. First, I recorded ten tunes with the incredible rhythmic force of Raul Reyes and Jemar Poteat on bass and drums, respectively. You can hear one selection right now on SoundCloud. The remaining tunes will be uploaded to SoundCloud soon, so please keep an eye out. Second, I began a brand new project entitled BRD featuring two of my favorite people on the planet, Rei Wang and Dave Bowen. We have been slinging trio tunes for months out of our houses, and recorded a small number of tunes earlier this year. Our project debuts at Saints in Oklahoma City on August 30th! Come out and support! The First Thursday Saints Session at Saints in Oklahoma City on August 2nd features myself. I will be bringing in a number of original compositions plus a couple of my favorite jazz standards to the Saints stage. I will be supported by a slamming band of Trevor Galvin on tenor saxophone, Rei Wang on bass, and Dave Bowen on drums. It is going to be an exciting evening of music. I could not be happier to be bringing this group to the Saints stage! It's going to be one hell of a night! Come on out! There is a $10 cover for Saints and it will be worth every penny. Since the end of June, I have been performing at Civic Center Music Hall with Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma. It has been an incredible run starting with Freaky Friday to Hello Dolly!, and tomorrow night we open our last show at the Civic Center - Mamma Mia, which runs through Sunday. It will be a party! This music is a ton of fun to play and the band destroys every single tune. I have had an amazing time playing for Lyric Theatre this summer and I look forward to next year! Next month, I head to NYC for a week. I'll be attending Jonathan Kreisberg's Brooklyn Intensive program. I look forward to soaking up as much as I can from Kreisberg while attending. The other side of going to New York City is seeing all the killing musicians all across the city. I look forward to checking out a few new spots and returning to several others. It's going to be a fun way to conclude the summer. I will be posting again here in a few days regarding an updated teaching schedule. I am looking to expand my private guitar lessons to two full days a week. If you are in Oklahoma City and are looking to get started playing guitar, furthering your knowledge, or learning new tunes, please give me a shout: bkbelanus@gmail.com More to come!
